PODS Warehouse
PODS’ motto is “We deliver. You pack. It's that simple.” When PODS Enterprises Inc. made the decision to consolidate its Central Texas distribution, one decision was simple — location. Looking to locate both their Austin and San Antonio markets into one main site, the company decided to build a new 54,450-SF facility in San Marcos, Texas to serve as a storage warehouse for the PODS containers. The easy access to Austin and San Antonio via Interstate 35 and State Highway 130 made San Marcos an attractive regional home base for PODS’ newest distribution facility.

PODS’ storage management system includes retrieving customer storage pods upon request, which involves moving other pod units out of the way temporarily while the other unit is accessed by the customer. This is a daily occurrence and special attention was paid to the layout of access doorways, maneuvering clearances for the pod unit forklifts, and detailing at door entrances for continued access by heavy forklift traffic. The surrounding yard was also designed to accommodate pod unit movement and temporary storage.
Design & Construction Facts
The design-build project was built with concrete tilt wall panels, which allowed for quick construction. The slab was designed and constructed to withstand the weight of the PODS containers as well as the 30-ton rated forklift used to move the containers within the building. The warehouse internal column layout was designed to allow maximum capacity for the standard container size.
