Highlight
Since its previous renovation, the function of the Robertson Elementary School library has changed from a space where students primarily access books to an environment of diverse learning resources and activities, from digital media to makerspaces. Fuse incorporated the desires and vision of the school principal, librarian, and District stakeholders into the design to accommodate numerous activities; the library is used for activities like one-on-one mentoring and open house events for the community. With a unique barbell-shaped footprint, the library was reimagined to offer students a variety of flexible spaces with unique furnishings to meet the demands of a modern elementary school. The placement and curved design of the new circulation desk, with new shelving on the perimeter walls, improves sight lines and maximizes flexibility for both the librarian and students.
Design & Construction Facts
To create a calmer and more focused environment for students and teachers, Fuse worked closely with the school principal to re-imagine the classroom and library finish palettes. The design process spanned several phases, allowing Fuse to create a palette that bridges the existing, darker finishes to updated, brighter materials. The new classroom casework was modeled after aspects found in the District’s newest elementary school, giving the Robertson campus a much-needed update to meet the needs of today’s classroom demands for teacher and student storage and learning functions.
